Cage Match Project, Round 10: My Little Runaway
By Alex Goss
Exhibition Runtime: March 11th, 2019 (opening in conjunction with Satellite Art Fair) through May 19th, 2019.
Cage Match Project is pleased to announce Round 10: My Little Runaway by Houston-based artist Alex Goss. For his installation, Goss references his own mutation. By animating custom made, six-fingered latex gloves, My Little Runaway fantasizes on an unrequited relationship with a forbidden and lost appendage. A single, motor-driven belt threads each spectral hand together; flopping and flailing, they rotate in their own eccentric paths within the cycle of motion. This figurative and literal loop functions as a monument for anatomies and identities that fall along the periphery of established boundaries.
Alex Goss (b. 1991, Houston, TX) received a BFA from the Cooper Union in New York City. After attending a residency at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Goss returned to Houston to learn from its manufacturing trades in the energy and medical fields. He currently fabricates industrial-grade 3D printers and medical devices. Goss has held solo exhibitions in New York, Baltimore, and Houston. Goss is a co-organizer of Moonmist, an artist-run project space in Houston, Texas.
