Application Opens: Jan 13, 2025
Deadline: Mar 3, 2025
Cage Match Project is seeking one proposal for our Round 24, I/O Residency. The chosen artist in-residence (AIR) will be provided a stipend of $2000, a studio space, mentorship opportunities, and additional installation and documentation support. This year we are prioritizing artists pursuing an undergraduate degree or who have graduated in 2023 or 2024 with an undergraduate or graduate degree. Preference is given to artists that identify as queer (LGBTQIA+), Black or African American, Indigenous, Person of Color (BIPOC), Gender non-conforming, and/or female.
About I/O Residency
The I/O Residency is tailored to junior and senior undergraduate art students and recently graduated artists in the Austin–Round Rock–Georgetown counties (Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties). We welcome artists interested in the interplay between outdoor space, the confined space of the trailer, and the evolving nature of the artwork itself to apply for our “I/O Residency, Round 24” program.
Qualified applicants must either be juniors or seniors pursuing an undergraduate degree or recent graduates from 2023 or 2024 with either an undergraduate or graduate degree.
STUDIO TO GALLERY AS INPUT TO OUTPUT:
The title “I/O” stands for “input” and “output,” representing the relationship between the artist’s studio and the “gallery.” We are especially keen on artists who are interested in thinking and creating outside the traditional gallery. This opportunity provides financial and spatial support to stage a narrative of the artistat-odds, with either history, space, or a work of art itself.
Artist Responsibilities
During the residency, the Artist in Residence (AIR) must work at least 8 hours per week at CMP’s artist studio located at The Museum of Human Achievement in Austin, Texas.
The AIR is expected to create a new installation or ensemble of various works for an exhibition inside the caged trailer. Round 24’s opening reception will take place on April 1, 2025.
